CHIP Alumni Continue to Have Opportunities to Learn: a letter from Robin Martin May 2007
Hands-on cooking surprised and delighted the CHIP alumni on March 18 when Marcella Lynch had several of her favorite main dish recipes, with their ingredients, ready for them to prepare. Anita Franklin assisted Marcella in answering questions as the participants, men and women, enjoyed getting to take part in the cooking. Before long an abundant table of scrumptious dishes was ready for all to enjoy and enjoy they did!
The third annual CHIP alumni market tour took place March 22 at Ray’s Food Place soon after the graduation of another large group of enthusiastic CHIPPERS. Robin Martin lead out, sharing where to find the many items the market stocks that will contribute to a nutritious and delicious diet of whole plant foods.
Rosalie Hurd shared her vast knowledge in food preservation, including canning, freezing and drying and simple meal planning and food combining on April 1. The participants learned simple ways to preserve foods using up-to-date equipment and canning methods. She served samples including lemon-grape juice made from freshly squeezed frozen lemon juice cubes, home-dried bananas and white figs, and a dried fruit compote with canned peaches, served over toasted bread.
“This is the most fun I’ve had on a Sunday afternoon in a long time,” exclaimed Jerry Moss, 2007 CHIP alumnus as he was sampling the salads, dressings and sandwich fillings he and nineteen other CHIPpers had prepared April 15, during the hands-on cooking class conducted by Robin Martin. Anita Franklin and Kay Gray helped to answer questions and keep a little order in a very busy kitchen. Everyone was rewarded with a trip down the buffet table laden with the dishes they made from God’s beautiful natural foods.
